IT’S WEEK 7 OF SHOW AND TELL! FIND OUT WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH LIFE IN OUR LITTLE HANDMADE HOME ❤️
Well, the snow I was really hoping to have for Christmas finally got here. A little late, Mother Nature! It’s still beautiful and even though we are nearly half way through January, I’m sure there is much more coming our way.
This was the view from my sewing room earlier this week.
Once the snow was finished piling on top of us, it got cold. Like really cold. As I write, it’s currently -25 degrees Celsius and dropping. The wind chill makes it feel like -32 degrees, which means nearly everyone who can is staying inside!
Normally, I would be hunkered down under blankets, sipping hot coffee and not leaving the house, but this week, I’m back to my part-time job. Did I mention that I’m a casual at our local quilt shop? It’s an opportunity that became available last November, and I jumped on it! I always enjoy spending time with the lovely ladies who work there, so why not join the team!
Plus, in February, I’ll even be teaching my first live class! My Brick Path Table Runner has been a favourite of my readers for a while, so it’s the project I chose to showcase for my first class.
RECENT YOUTUBE VIDEOS
Once again, it’s full of goodies. I’m thinking about including an unboxing on my YouTube channel, just so you can really see what I got. What do you think?
Earlier this week, I made a point of sitting down and stitching for an afternoon. And what a wonderful thing it was! I started in my office, in my comfy reading chair. After a while, I moved into the living room, curled up under a blanket with my Cricut lamp and a hockey game and finished my latest pattern, Love Hearts. It felt good to take the time for some stitching, instead of just trying to do it in between all my other things.
This year, as with everything else, I’m going to be more intentional about making the time for cross-stitch. I love it and I can easily forget that in the midst of all the busyness!
One of my big goals over the next couple of months is to finish (or start, depending on your perspective) decorating both my office and my sewing room. As you might have noticed in my videos, the walls in my sewing room are a little bare.
This certainly isn’t by design, but I haven’t really figured out what to put where just yet. I think I’ll start by making some of these Quilt Block Boards using the tutorial by Lori Holt at Bee in my Bonnet. They are so cute and look pretty quick and easy to put together!
I’m also planning to make a couple of wall hangings to display in both my sewing room and my office. I may have to make another Simply Charming Pinwheels wall hanging since I love the first one so much!
In staying with the theme of “Get My Sewing Room and Office Done”, I’ll definitely be taking on some organizing projects as well. My sewing room especially needs some work. Until now, I haven’t been able to share this, but I can now announce that I am planning to start selling some fabrics and kits soon! Right in my very own Our Little Handmade Home Shop!
Keeping my sewing room in tip-top shape will help me stay on top of inventory and stay inspired to put together small kits for you! Keep an eye out, as I’ll be sharing more about this in the coming weeks.
WHAT I’M READING
My husband bought me three books for Christmas and I’ve started reading the first. I got the first three books in the Medlar Mystery series by Jude Deveraux, one of my favourite authors. There are four books in the series so far, with the fifth to be published this year. These will keep me reading for a little while!
VERY MERRY MAKE-AHEAD and CHRISTMAS PREP
Yes, you read that right. I’m starting to prepare for Christmas! After a rather hectic holiday in 2023, I have decided I will be ready for Christmas this year. So with that in mind, I created the “Very Merry Make-Ahead” series on my website and YouTube. On the second Thursday of each month, I’ll be bringing you a project that you can make now and have ready for the holidays. In some cases, these projects will be good for any time of year, like this week’s make – Fabric Gift Bags! I made mine with Christmas fabric, but you can make them for any occasion.
Another way that I’ll be prepping early is with ongoing Advent calendar shopping. It’s so much easier to fill calendars when you can keep an eye out for little trinkets all year long. And when you have a few to complete, it feels a lot easier on the budget as well! In fairness, I probably end up spending a little more than if I had to buy everything all at once, but I find that I can give more meaningful items if I’m not “panic buying”!
I’m very fortunate that in our home, we have an abundance of closet space. One of the closets upstairs in the hallway has been designated the “Christmas Closet”. As you can see, I’ve got lots of room to stay organized when it comes to wrapping. But did you notice the white boxes on the shelves? Those are for advent and/or stocking stuffers. I can sort them by recipient and I can see what I’ve got for each person quickly and easily. Plus, my husband knows that he has to stay out of this closet at all times, so I’m safe to stash pretty much anything that fits in here!
It’s only a couple of weeks now until I head to Florida and Disney World with my mom and my oldest nephew and we are all getting so excited! We’ve talked about doing a few things outside the parks and one activity we all agree on is shopping! I’m really hoping to hit a Janie and Jack store to do a little shopping for Miss P! Their clothes are just the cutest 😊
