WELCOME TO THE FIRST POST IN A NEW SERIES – SHOW AND TELL: LIFE IN OUR LITTLE HANDMADE HOME!  GET A GLIMPSE OF WHAT’S HAPPENING IN MY LITTLE WORLD ❤️

I’ve been thinking for a while now that it might be nice to share with you some things that don’t really “belong” in posts about quilting or sewing.  But they do belong in my life.  Each one of us has many things in common with the other, and many things that make us feel unique.  These posts are designed to reach both.  While I will absolutely talk about quilting, sewing and other Handmade Home types of things, I’m also going to share what I love, what I’m doing and what my life might look like in any given week.

The plan is to make these posts a weekly series, to keep you up to date on goings-on around here and to keep me on track!  So, let me thank you ahead of time for helping me to be more consistent and productive!

Why Show + Tell?

I don’t know about you, but I can remember as a kid in school just how exciting Show and Tell Day was!  When it was finally my turn, I’d agonize over what to share, and I had such a hard time choosing.  Of course, we could only pick one thing, so that’s what I did.  I’m looking back on the excitement of those days, but instead of choosing just one topic to talk about, I can pick as many as I’d like.

This week, we’re talking a little about quilting and a lot about holidays.  It’s the first weekend in December, and I’m in full-on Christmas mode!  So, without further ado, let’s dive into Show and Tell!

QUILTING

This week, I was so excited to find in my mailbox my very first Sew Sampler Quilting Subscription Box from Fat Quarter Shop!  I LOVE getting mail, and when it’s quilty mail, all the better!  This month had some really great products, including a fat quarter bundle, a pattern and more.  You can get your own Sew Sampler Box on the Fat Quarter Shop website.

DECORATING

Well, I’ve been saying since the first week of November that I would be getting my decorating done, but this weekend, I finally mean it!  Our trees are up, and the decorating is done.  I scaled back a bit this year from last year’s extravaganza, and we really like it.  Last year, since it was our first Christmas in this house, we went all out.  I think I put out every decoration I owned!

This is last year’s dining room tree. I loved it, but this we we tried something new!

This year, I was a bit more purposeful and selective.  I really tried to adhere to a red-and-white theme throughout the house, even in our family room, which is affectionately referred to as the Disney room.  It’s mostly red and white, but a bit more colour thrown in, Disney style!

My husband and I love to spend quiet mornings or evenings in the “Disney Room”!

We also had three trees last year – the living room, dining room and family room.  This year, we chose to cut out the dining room tree, just to see.  So far, so good.

KITCHEN

December is always a busy time, so making use of slow cookers is a gift in itself, am I right?  You can bet that I’m going to be making my favourite homemade chili at least once this month.  I even make my own seasoning for it!  Put on a loaf of bread in your breadmaker and you’ve got meals for a couple of days, maybe more.

We all know just how busy this month can get, so why not make life just a little bit easier!

WHAT I’M READING

I always have at least two books on the go – a self-help book for morning reading and a “story” for bedtime.  I like to read fiction at night, as it helps me to unwind.  As you might guess, I’m heavily into the Christmas stories right now.  Generally speaking, I start reading Christmas rom-coms in November through to the new year.  They are just so relaxing and, not unlike every Hallmark movie ever made, fairly predictable.  Right now, I’m enjoying Christmas by Candlelight by Karen Swan, a cute story with pretty likeable characters.  I’m only a third of the way through, though, so I’m not sure if I’ll still like them all by the end!

I’ve always got at least two books on the go. What are you reading?

For my morning reading, I’m currently working my way through You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero for probably the sixth time.  I like to read this book at least once a year.  If you’ve read it, you know why.  If you haven’t, you should.

CRAFTS

Of course, my work keeps me pretty focused on all things crafty, but some days, I like to do a little something just for me.  I don’t have new crafts on the horizon this week, but it’s nearly time to break out the Cricut and make some cute gift tags for Christmas wrapping.  I made a bunch of them a couple of years ago, but it’s nearly time to replenish.

CELEBRATIONS

Our first granddaughter is a whole eight months old today!  It’s hard to believe she’s so little but so big at the same time!  Every day that we get to spend with her is an absolute joy, so you can bet that Gigi and Papa will be getting some grandbaby snuggles in today.

Little Miss P loves the lights that come on in our Christmas villages.
