I’m not sure that there’s anything cuter or more delicious than Mickey Mouse cupcakes!  These adorable desserts are perfect for any Disney-themed party, or just as a special treat for your family.

And the best part? They’re super easy to make, even if you’re not an experienced baker. All you need is a simple vanilla cupcake recipe, some buttercream frosting, and a few extra decorations.

Before we get started on our Mickey Mouse cupcakes, though, we should clear up a little misconception that many people have.  Cupcakes are NOT only for celebrations, they are for everyday happiness!  If you have a birthday party or some other event, these adorable Mickey Mouse cupcakes would certainly fit the bill.  But, if it’s Tuesday, they’ll work great for that too!

Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting

We recommend starting with the our basic vanilla cupcake recipe. It’s a tried-and-true recipe that always turns out moist and delicious cupcakes. And trust us, your little ones (and not-so-little ones) will thank you for it.

Once you’ve got your cupcakes baked and cooled, it’s time to make the frosting.  I recommend my Buttercream Frosting that goes oh-so-perfectly with these delicious cupcakes!

Of course, you’ll need your favourite tools for baking and decorating.  Here are a few of mine:

KitchenAid Stand Mixer
Glass Pyrex Bowls
Baking Pans
Wilton Cake Decorating Tools

Decorating your Mickey Mouse Cupcakes

Now that your cupcakes are cooled and the frosting is ready, it’s time to get creative. There are SO MANY ways to make Mickey Mouse cupcakes.  Here are just a few suggestions!

Basic Mickey Mouse Design

For a simple Mickey Mouse head on your cupcakes, you’ll use black frosting and Oreo cookies. Start by frosting your cupcakes with a layer of buttercream frosting. Then, take your Oreo cookies and carefully separate them, making sure to keep the filling intact. Place one half of an Oreo cookie in the center of the cupcake to create Mickey’s head.

Next, use the black frosting to pipe on two circles for Mickey’s ears. You can use a piping bag with a small round tip, or simply snip the corner of a plastic bag and pipe the frosting through that.

Candy Mickey Mouse Design

Much like the basic design above, you’ll be making a Mickey Mouse head that lies flat on the top of the cupcake.  Start by frosting the cupcake either smoothly or using a piping bag to create a thicker layer of frosting, as I did!  Choose round candies, in pretty much any colour you like, and place them in the shape of Mickey Mouse.

You can also stand the candies on end, creating a sort of 3-D effect.  You will need to either have a very thick layer of frosting or use a piping bag for this option.

Mickey Mouse Ears

For this cupcake, you’re going to need a fair amount of icing.  Using a fairly large decorator tip, pipe the icing onto the cupcake, coming to a point in the centre, much like a Dole Whip!  Place Oreos, chocolate wafers or any other round candy on each side so they look like Mickey Mouse Ears.  And of course, you can add some sprinkles for fun!

Keep in mind, you don’t have to stop at just Mickey Mouse! You can easily customize these cupcakes to feature any of your favourite Disney characters. Use different colours of frosting to create different outfits, or add some edible glitter for a touch of sparkle.

And if you really want to go all out, why not create a whole Disney-themed dessert table? Add some Minnie Mouse cupcakes, some Donald Duck cookies, and maybe even a princess-themed cake. The possibilities are endless! Of course, if you prefer to make cupcakes and don’t want to fuss with your own decorations, these adorable Mickey Mouse Cupcake Toppers would be a fantastic addition to your dessert!

Another tip I have for making these cupcakes is to get your kids involved. Let them help you decorate the cupcakes, and watch as their faces light up with excitement. It’s a great way to spend some quality time together and create memories that will last a lifetime.

So there you have it, folks – the perfect recipe for making Mickey Mouse cupcakes at home.

Just remember, the trickiest part of these Mickey Mouse cupcakes is not eating them all in one sitting!  While it might seem like a great idea, there’s NOTHING magical about that.  The best thing to do?  Share your treats with your family, and make EVERYBODY happy!  Who knew your kitchen could become your happiest place on earth?
