Quick and Easy Valentine’s Day Decor

A couple of weeks ago, I was toying with the idea of adding more pink and red decor to our home in honour of Valentine’s Day.  I created some cute printables that you can download for FREE from my Member Vault and put out a few dishes of candies.  A few pink and red flowers, white cushions and a red and white throw and VOILA – it looks like Cupid came to visit.

After looking at the room, though, I felt like I could add a little more.  I pulled out my Cricut Maker and got to work.

I created this easy heart garland fun which is also in my FREE Member Vault.  Just download the  PDF files to your computer!  I uploaded the file into Design Space and used my Cricut Maker to do the cutting for me.  It gives me such a clean, finished product.  You could also download the PDF, print and cut them out yourself – I don’t have steady enough hands to do that kind of work, but I know plenty of people that could make easy work of it!

Supplies and Tools

You don’t need a lot of items to make this super cute Valentine’s Day Heart Garland.  In fact, all you need is right here:

  • Cardstock – I used a combination of pinks, reds and whites that I had in my stash.
  • FREE Heart Garland Pattern – download it HERE from my Member’s Only Vault OR use the form at the top of the page!
  • Printer – if you are not uploading the pattern into Design Space – I use this printer.  It’s awesome!
  • Cutting tool – you can use scissors or a cutting machine like a Cricut.  If you are interested in owning your own Cricut machine, click here:  Shop Cricut
  • String or Ribbon
  • These cute Miniature Wooden Clothespins – alternatively, if you don’t have the clothes pegs, you could use Tape or a Hot Glue Gun

Yeah, that’s it!  Chances are, you have everything that you need in your craft stash!

Putting It Together

The hearts are approximately 3.5″ x 3.5″, but you can shrink or enlarge them before cutting in Design Space.  Depending on the area you want to hang your garland, calculate the number of hearts you need.  I left about 1″ between hearts, so if you were to put the garland together the way I did, you would need 4 hearts for every foot of string or ribbon.  A 5-foot length of string would require 20 hearts.  If you choose to hang them closer together or further apart, adjust your number of cutouts accordingly.

Lay your hearts out in the pattern you like, mixing up designs, prints and colours until you find the look that works for you.  The designs are reversible, so there is no need to look for the front or back of each heart unless you have one-sided paper.  Go ahead and clip them onto the string with the clothespins.  Otherwise, affix the string or ribbon to the hearts using either tape or hot glue.  And that’s it!

Hang it up and enjoy your cute new decor ❤️

As a little bonus, save all the small pieces that get trimmed out of the hearts – you can use them as embellishments on cards, tags or other crafts you may do throughout the year!

For a fun twist, if you cut the hearts out on cardstock or something a little heavier, they would be a great addition to your seasonal tiered trays!  Check out my favourite Valentine’s Tiered Tray here:

These heart patterns could easily be placed in small frames or on a wooden block using ModPodge!  Just think of the possibilities!

There are so many fun, fresh and frugal ways to decorate for Valentine’s Day, including making use of Valentine’s printables!  Which will you choose?
