Who here loves to read?  If you’re anything like me, you have a list of books you want to read that’s about a mile long, and what seems like zero time to get to them.  Am I right?  So, let’s talk about Audible.  What’s that?  Well, it happens to be one of my absolute favourite subscriptions of ALL TIME!  I’ve been using it for over six years now, and I cannot say enough about it.  And now that I am working from home, for myself, my Audible library has become invaluable to me.  Wondering why?  I’m so glad you asked!  Here are my top 3 reasons every entrepreneur NEEDS an Audible Subscription.

Audible Saves You Money through Subscriptions

Learning can be expensive.  There’s not really any way around it.  So being able to save a little here and there makes such a difference.  By becoming an Audible member, and purchasing monthly credits, you can save a lot on the titles you want and need.  And like with any great subscription program, the more you buy, the more you save.  In Canada, we have four options – two monthly programs and two annual programs.  Initially, I was a 1 book per month subscriber, which was costing me $14.95 per month.  That in itself is amazing when you consider that the titles I buy range anywhere from $20 – $30 each.  So score for me!  I also had the option of purchasing two credits per month, which would drop the price to $12.98 per credit, or $25.95 per month.  The annual plans are roughly the same idea – $162.95 per year breaks down to 1 credit per month at $13.58.  A two-credits per month plan is $287.95, but that means I’m only paying $12.00 per credit!  How amazing is that!!  That means in some cases, I’m saving up to 60% off the cover price of these audiobooks.  AMAZING!!!

Another really great feature as a member is that if you don’t like a book that you have purchased, you can exchange it.  Crazy!

AND, as if that isn’t enough, there are Daily Deals for Members!  Watch for them, and you can really score a great price on any number of titles.  I don’t use my credits for those daily specials, as it’s just not worth it.  I prefer to exchange credits for the higher-priced titles.

Audible Saves You Time through Multi-Tasking

I know, multi-tasking is something that should be avoided at all costs.  EXCEPT for when you have an audiobook.  Think about all the times that you’ve been in your car and the radio sucked.  Put on an audiobook.  Going for a walk after eating lunch?  It’s the perfect time for an audiobook.  Doing dishes, ironing clothes, making beds, cleaning the bathroom … you get the idea.  Audiobook!  These are the only times that I try to multi-task.  It’s amazing how many books you can actually get through when you can perform simple tasks and listen at the same time.  Brilliant!

Audible Gives You Instant Access to Learning

You know how when you’re reading a really great blog post or an article on Facebook, and you hear about a book that you just know would help you out?  Yeah, me too.  Audible is great for instant access.  When I see a title that I want or need, I simply pop into my Audible account and either save the title to my wishlist or purchase it right then and there.  I don’t need to write it down, and then forget where I wrote it down, and then try to find it three weeks later.  Yup.  Been there.

Audible’s library appears to grow every time I visit it.  At last count, there were over 24,000 titles in Business & Money alone.  That does NOT include general self-help books, or the many other genres available.  The most difficult thing now is to choose!  For more tips on fitting your learning into your day, check out my post on How to Make Time for Personal Development.

Bonus – Audible is GREAT for Downtime

These days, it’s so easy to get caught up in the must-do, need-to-have, gotta-get-done items on our lists.  Wouldn’t it be nice to take the time to read a book?  Not to learn, but to relax, and immerse yourself into a world that ISN’T pulling you in 27 directions at once.  I absolutely love putting on a great novel and enjoying the story.  When my husband and I travel out of town – any further than about an hour, we will often pop on an audiobook.  We really enjoy the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn – I think we are about six books in now.  It’s a nice alternative to the same old music, and since we really don’t agree on radio stations, audiobooks are a fantastic common ground!
